It's a New Year

Does the new year feel any different? Not Really. Did I make resolutions? Not Really. Did I ever keep the resolutions I made in the past? Not Really. You get where this is going, right?

So, I must admit that I am really pathetic, and only lasted until 9:15 pm on New Year's Eve. How very sad is that. Well, actually, what's even sadder is the fact that I was completely exhausted by 7:45 pm, and forced myself to make the effort to stay up until at least 9:00 pm. What has happened to my stamina?!

Anyway, what does the New Year bring us, you may ask (and if you're not asking that question, I'm going to tell you anyway!). The answer is: lots and lots of stuff.
  • Braedyn is completely off the bottle now (sounds like he's a recovering milk-aholic, huh?). He is totally on solids and using a sippy cup.

  • He reverted to one long nap a day... but since starting back at preschool today, that nap schedule went down the toilet. Oh well, you can't win them all, huh?

  • He now associates me with the word "ma-ma". Yeah!!!

  • He makes one heck of a valiant effort to try to catch the kitty cats. Unfortunately, he doesn't stand a chance with Calvin & Hobbes.

  • He gives me kisses on the cheek when I ask for one. Well, I call them kisses, but they're more like wide, open-mouth, slobbery kisses. But heck, they're still nothing short of exceptional kisses from a baby to his Mommy.

  • He claps at stuff that makes him happy or when we praise him, but most of the time, he just claps to clap because it's his newfound talent.

  • And last but not least, Braedyn got his first pair of shoes this weekend. He is still cruising around holding onto furniture, but he is moving around quite well, so we figured we'd start getting him used to wearing shoes. Here is a picture of his new shoes:

When he first tried to move around in his shoes, it was seriously like he had three feet. He would pick up his foot really high when stepping, as if the shoe weighed 10 pounds or something. Then he would continually step on his other foot by accident... which is the picture below. It was pretty damn funny... err, I mean cute.

That's quite a bit to report for being only 2 days into the new year, huh? Oh, and also, Ben was kind enough to give me a summary of our expenses for the past year... by category. This is one of the wonderful features of his Quicken program (seriously, will someone please kill this software program for me). Although, I must admit, some of the expense totals were quite shocking, including the cost of Braedyn for his first year of life. So I'm in the process of gathering that information for my next post, because it's pretty interesting, but at the same time, scary-as-hell!! So if you're in the process of thinking about having children, brace yourself. Because I'm pretty sure that I could market my next post as the new form of birth control. =)
