Movie Date

Last weekend, I went on my first movie date since, well, since the kids were born. Sad situation that is. But this wasn't your ordinary movie date, it was a fabulous date with my 3 1/2 year old. And I have to say, Braedyn was the ideal date. He didn't want any of my popcorn or soda, he happily sat there eating his pretzels (that we snuck in via my purse) and drinking his milk (that we also snuck in).

We went to see Toy Story 3, and this was Braedyn's very first time going to the movies. I wasn't sure what to expect, so we arrived about 15 minutes early so I could show him around the movie theater. He was all-too-eager to sit down and start watching the movie. I quickly noticed that Braedyn didn't even weigh enough to hold down the bottom of the foldable chair, it kept wanting to close on him, so I had to hold my foot there the entire time. It still slightly aches from being in that odd position.

So after getting the seat fixed, we were ready to watch the movie. Too bad we had to endure another 15 minutes of previews. Don't these people know that kid's attention spans are not made for all these previews... even I was getting bored at this point!

Finally, the movie started, and I have to tell you... there are few things greater than seeing the look of complete awe on your child's face when the movie characters flash up on the big screen. For the first 15 minutes, I was watching Braedyn more than the movie. It was the epitome of cuteness! And even though I'm not a huge fan of animated movies, I am quickly becoming a huge fan of Pixar films. They do an amazing job with their movies, and an even better job at tailoring the movie to adults as well as kids.

We made it through the main part of the movie, and with about 20 minutes left, Braedyn started to get fidgety. I panicked, and did what any sane mom would do, I pulled out a lollipop and gave it to him. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. Then, with about 10 minutes left, Braedyn declared, "All Done, I wanna go home and see Daddy". And if you don't know my child, let me tell you that when Braedyn is "All Done", there is pretty much nothing you can do to convince him otherwise... the kid is just flat out All Done!

So we gathered our stuff, managed to get past the child and her sleeping dad that were next to us, and came home. I was so into the movie that I was bummed I didn't see the end. But considering Braedyn made it through THAT MUCH of the movie, as well as getting there 15 minutes early and sitting through 15 minutes of previews, I really can't complain that much. What I did learn from this experience is that next time, don't show up until the middle of the previews!

After getting home, Braedyn went straight for his Toy Story toy collection and started to play with them. Which then made me wonder if he was so eager to leave the movies so he could go home and play with his toys. Hmm... But overall, I was really pleased with Little Boy's first trip to the movies. I already can't wait for the next one.
