O' Christmas Tree

Oh how I love this weekend... Thanksgiving is over with and it's time to get ready for Christmas. What is it about having kids that just renews the Christmas spirit in you?!? And just for the record, I'm not purposely skipping over the Thanksgiving update, I can sum it up for you real quickly: We spent Thanksgiving with my inlaws, Judi & Karl. Food was great, company was great, but seriously, what's a holiday without a sick child? Braedyn is sick, once again. You know it's a bad sickness when the pediatrician bypasses the typical 10-day antibiotic and goes straight for the liquid 5-day z-pack for toddlers (who knew such a thing actually existed). Braedyn has a form of bronchitis and he's been pretty miserable. But with the glorious z-pack, we're hoping that he will be feeling much better by tomorrow evening!

Ben dragged all the holiday decorations out of the shed for me, and I began to put the Christmas tree together. Yes, we're one of those families that still puts up a fake tree. But not just any fake tree... our tree is the shortest (less than 5 feet), best looking, Charlie Brown-like Christmas tree ever! So in the spirit of Christmas, I was sure that putting up the tree was going to be a family event. Can you guess who helped me get the tree together? Luckily I had my camera on me to capture all my little elfs at work...

Here is Elf #1 - of course, he's excused because he is really sick and needs his rest.

Here is Elf #2 - I guess we'll excuse him too, because let's be serious... if Chase wants to nap, I'm sure as hell not going to wake him up!

Here is Elf #3 - Surely there is no excuse for this one. Not only did he take a nap while I was putting the tree together, but he went outside and napped on the front porch swing. You know, so if I called him for help, it wasn't his fault that he couldn't hear me. (You gotta give the man credit, he's no amateur at this, huh?)

So after I finally got the tree put together, I started to hang the Christmas bulbs. This is right about the time when Mr. Crabby Pants woke up from his nap (that would be Braedyn's temporary name until he gets past this sickness). He immediately wanted to help Mommy put the red and white "balls" on the tree. Here are some pictures of my little trooper in action:

Here he is gently taking the Christmas "ball" out of the package...

And here he is gently putting it on the tree...

And the end result, several clusters of Christmas balls perfectly arranged by my Little Boy...

While all of that was cute, funny and adorable... you have to know that the anal, perfectionist side of me just couldn't leave my tree like that. So I patiently waited until the boys were in bed for the night, then decorated the tree to perfection!

And I'm pretty sure that about 15 minutes after Braedyn wakes up tomorrow, 85% of the Christmas ornaments within his reach will be laying on the ground below the tree. Of course, in preparation of this, I hung lots of candy canes and bought a huge bag of lollipops. If putting Braedyn in time-out doesn't keep him from tearing the tree down, I'm certainly not above bribery via candy canes and lollipops!

Why not get a small tree for Braedyn that he can mess with? Hands off mommy's tree but a tree his very own that he can put his hands all over?

And poor thing being sick! ((Braedyn))

I think I may have Tim drag the tree out this afternoon so we can work on it...which means I sit and point while he puts things where I want! LOL

I sure hope Braedyn gets better soon! For his sake.. and yours, too :) Poor thing!

I think we may put our tree up today... that is if the girls and I can pester Shane enough to get it out and drag it upstairs! Yes, we have a fake tree, too. To me, its the only way to go. I don't have to water it (which I would forget to do) or vacuum up needles. And if I want that pine-fresh smell, all I need to do is use some Pine-Sol!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend :)
