At some point in the last month, we got away from reading books with Braedyn before his bedtime. Not quite sure what happened, but I'm sure it had something to do with Braedyn's ever-growing fascination with his Hot Wheels. The last couple nights, we've finally been able to get one or two books worked into his nighttime routine again.
As Braedyn was getting ready for bed last night, I told him to go get some books to read. When I came in the room, he had just one book on the bed. I said, "pick out another book so we can read two, and make sure you get a book you really like". I then stepped out of the room to make sure Chase was still sleeping soundly, and when I came back in, this is what I found.

I mean, we know he can count, right? So when did 2 books turn into 10? And yes, we sat there and read All. Ten. Books. And let me tell you how smart this kid is... the last book we always read before going to bed is Goodnight Moon. Do you think that book was in this huge stack on his bed? Heck No, after reading all these books, before I could even get up from the bed, he starting chanting "Moon, Moon, Night-Night Moon". Gotta love the clever way kids think!
Braedyn's class at school is having an Easter party on Thursday. When this happens, I typically sign up for the mini cupcakes, because let's be honest, its the easiest thing I can find from our local grocery store, Publix. =) Seriously though, have you seen these things? They are so cute and the perfect size for kids.

But when I went to Publix yesterday, I couldn't find them anywhere. I asked the bakery lady and she informed me they were all out and weren't expecting more until Friday.
::gasp:: Friday?!?
::double gasp:: So I started hunting around for something else, and finally picked up some iced cookies from the bakery. I mean, sweets are sweets, right?
When I picked up Braedyn yesterday, I looked at the Party Signup Sheet, and noticed that there was already a separate line for cookies and someone else was already bringing them in. What the...? (On a sidenote, how much friggin' sugar do these toddlers need?) I grimaced at the thought of having to take them back to Publix. I really hate returning stuff to stores, and usually try to avoid it at all costs. But I had no choice, because if these 15 large, iced cookies remained in my house, I was pretty sure that I would eat about 14 of them (and only because I'd set one cookie aside in case I had to bribe Braedyn at some point, otherwise I'd eat that one too).
So I begrudgingly went back to Publix and was wondering the whole time how lame I would sound when I started to explain a) why I bought the wrong item to begin with, and b) why I have to return them instead of just keeping them. But then I thought, "who cares what the cashier thinks, I don't know who she is and she doesn't know me". So I confidently walked up to the front desk and said, "So here's the deal...", and as I started to tell the rest of my well rehearsed story, the next thing that came out of my mouth was, "... I sent my husband in here to get cupcakes and he came home with these cookies". Then I did the whole "eye roll" thing for effect. The cashier smiled and cheerfully refunded my money with no questions asked.

I am trying to start reading a book to Spencer as part of his bedtime ritual but just don't know how to do that when all he wants to do is eat (ie, be attached to my boob) and fall asleep. I really want to read to him but am not sure how to work it in.
Also...throwing Ben under the bus...priceless.
Oh..and Wal Mart has the mini cupcakes...and they are surprisingly good!
I am laughing out loud at your Publix story! HA! And adding the eye roll? Brilliant!
