So, I have this child, his name is Chase, and he screams - alot. Not sure why he feels the need to scream, but he does it, ALOT. And it's not just any scream, it's that fantastic, ear-piercing scream. At times, it can be a bit unnerving. There's usually a minimum of an hour lag time between when I get home with the kids and when Ben gets home. This hour can be extremely stressful a tad bit difficult at times with getting Braedyn situated and happy, getting Chase situated and happy, and getting dinner cooked and ready to eat. This hour can be THAT MUCH more difficult when I have a screaming 11-month old on top of it.
So what I just described is what happened today. As I'm trying to finish cooking the spaghetti (I know, very Martha Stewart-like, huh?), Chase is just screaming away because he wanted Mommy to hold him and tote him around, which was just not possible at the moment. In an attempt to silence him for 2 minutes, I desperately searched for a toy that he hasn't tired of yet. As I eyed the toy room, nothing caught my eye. I looked around some more, and then I saw what I hoped would be the answer to my prayers. I grabbed it and gave it to him, hoping that it would quiet him down for just one single minute as he tried to figure out what it was...
Needless to say, it worked like a charm. I didn't think he knew what to do with it, but it took all of 2.3 seconds for him to get the hang of it. And boy-oh-boy did he get the hang of it.
He held on to that sucker for a solid 5 minutes. That's right, a solid 5 minutes of no-screaming. Just enough time for me to get dinner done and served. So yeah, I know I won't be winning any Mom of the Year Awards anytime soon. But it's like this...
Price of a dum-dum lollipop - 5 cents
Price of Chase's future dental work for cavities - $2,000
Price of 5 minutes of peace for Mommy - PRICELESS
Need I say more?
