Never Ending Sickness

Braedyn had his 4 month well-visit today. The thrush in his mouth still hadn't gone away from 2 1/2 weeks ago, he's been congested really bad, and had to sleep upright in his swing last night so he could breathe through his clogged-up little nose. Let me remind you that from 0-3 months, he was a Healthy Little Tyke; and since he started preschool at 3 months, he's been a Sick Little Tyke. Coindence? I'm thinking not so much!

When he went to the pediatrician last time, he got an antibiotic for his ear infection, and medicine for his thrush. So, I ask the pedi about why his thrush hasn't gone away, when the medicine should have worked almost immediately. She says "Oh, well that's because the antibiotic for his ear infection was working against the thrush medicine, so the thrush medicine wasn't working effectively until he was off the antibiotic." Huh? Are you kidding me? Okay, let me get this straight - you gave me a medicine to start using that would have zero affect until after 10 days? And that makes sense in what way? So, now he has to take the medicine again for 2 more weeks. But hey, let's look at the brightside, at least his ear infection is gone, right?

So, as I get him ready for bed tonight, this was my routine: a) give him tylenol to help with the fever he has from the 5 shots he received today; b) struggle with feeding because thrush in mouth is bothering him; c) put Little Noses nasal drops in when he's least expecting it - to which he let out a loud cry and gave me his "you will pay for this" look; d) put Baby Vicks on his chest so he can hopefully breathe through his clogged-up baby nostrils; e) give him his thrush medicine; and let's not forget about f) the hydrocortisone I have to put on the dry skin patches on his cheek and forehead. In case you can't tell, something has seriously gone wrong with this picture. So what does all this mean, let me break it down for you:
  • Congested Little Braedyn: Trouble sleeping from clogged-up nose
  • Concerned Mommy: Trouble sleeping from constant worrying about Braedyn
  • Concerned Daddy: Sleeping like a rock
  • Unconcerned Calvin & Hobbes: Who's Braedyn? Nothing interrupts my sleep.

But on the brightside, Braedyn is growing so fast. He weighed in at a whopping 16 lb 13 oz, and was 25" long. Another couple months and he'll be one-half my height!!

Welcome to the world of the never ending sickness! We've been pretty lucky on the ear infection side (probably only 4 or 5) but lots of other kids seem to get them all the time. Nicholas just got over taking some antibiotics too. The only positive thing I can say is... maybe this helps so they dont get so sick when they start kindergarten... yea, right! So exciting about your brother moving back and about Jason/Jess. How cool! Take care...
