Bye Bye Binkie

You can't see my excitement, but trust me, I am so very excited about this news. At the ripe age of 14 months, Braedyn has given up the pacifier/binkie. Can you say "amen".

It was hard to contain my excitement as I went through the house and cars searching for all the binkies so we could finally get rid of them. Surely I've missed one under a couch or hidden in a shoe or something, but the majority of them are gone for good.

I wanted to be rid of the pacifier around 15 months, so this is such great news - it almost makes me forget about that glass of wine I've been craving for oh, about... 16 weeks now. Key word being *almost*. Anyway, for several weeks, Braedyn didn't get his binkie much during the day, only when he went to sleep at night. We thought we'd never be able to get rid of it since it calmed him down in the evenings before bed time.

Then all of a sudden, Braedyn started to rebel against bedtime at night and refused the binkie and threw the best toddler tantrum he could muster up. And trust me, we damn sure tried to give him the binkie in an attempt to calm him down. But he refused it or he would take it from us and throw it on the ground - gotta love that attitude, he must get that from Mommy! So we started to think rationally, and finally realized that this might be a blessing in disguise. So, we just stopped giving him the binkie at night, his rebellious little tantrums disappeared within a week, and everyone's happy. But most especially Mommy & Daddy! Hooray for no more binkie!!

Wow, he threw a tantrum to tell you he didn't want no stinkin' pacifier? Go Braedyn!

Kudos to Braedyn! Better now than later. That's a tough challenge for parents and kids to accomplish.

That's the great thing about binkies, they can be taken away! Fingers and thumbs, on the other hand, can NOT be taken away ;-) Yay for the binkie-free way of life! He thought he was getting what he wanted, guess the jokes on him LOL.

That is wonderful and so great that it was basically hassle free. I so wish Nicholas would have taken a pacifier instead of his thumb. Like Fiona said, you cant take away the thumb...and believe me, I've been trying. Fortunately he only sucks at night for the most part (or when he's in trouble..lol!) I keep telling him he cant go to kindergarten in August if he is still sucking his thumb. Doesnt seem to really care though! Great news for you guys!!
