Yup, that's right, the time has come for the daunting task of potty training. We had to wait to start this process until Braedyn moved up to the next class in school, as this is the class where they begin to potty train the kids. He was finally moved into this class last Monday. They begin the kids right away with using the potty, they don't even have a changing table in the room... which sort of freaked me out at first. So within a few days, we traded in Braedyn's diapers for Pull Ups. While I love the concept of Pull Ups, I just have to say "Wowzers on the price of these things!!"Before you read anymore, I should warn you that there will be multiple uses of the word "poop" and "pee" in the remainder of this post. If you're too wimpy to read on, exit the page now. Okay, now that I got that disclaimer out of the way, here we go...
All week, Braedyn's teachers have told me how impressed they are with how well he took to the potty. He sat on it from Day 1, patiently waited until his teacher counted to 10, and then jumped off the potty and continued on with his day. All of this repititive training during the day translated to Braedyn telling me "pee-pee" or "poo-poo" when he felt the urge to go at home. So we'd run to the bathroom, sit there patiently as we counted to 10, and then he usually hopped off without doing anything in the potty. And this is pretty much how things went the whole weekend.
During yesterday afternoon, Braedyn came running to me saying he had to go to the potty, so we run to the bathroom, but still nothing. Although this time I could tell that he did have to go #2 by the way he was acting (don't ask, moms just know this). Then about two minutes later, he comes running to me again saying he had to use the potty. And this time, he did the unthinkable... he actually went poopy in the potty. (Get used to it, it's my new Mommy phrase... "do you have to go poopy/pee-pee in the potty?)
So needless to say, I was extremely excited and praised my Little Boy and told him what a Big Boy he is. And then I called Ben into the bathroom, and explained what happened and told him to give Braedyn lots of praise and hugs and kisses. And without skipping a beat, the first thing out of Ben's mouth was, "man, it stinks in here". And just like that, the moment was gone.
So we'll continue the potty training process, and hope that Braedyn continues to do well with it. And we'll also begin to train Ben in the art of praising someone!
