Ben and I took Braedyn to the Sesame Street Live show that came to town this weekend. Braedyn was never really a huge fan of Sesame Street, so the only character he knew was Elmo. The extent of my Sesame Street knowledge is this: the red guy is Elmo, the yellow one is Big Bird, and the blue one is Cookie Monster (and I only know that if he has a cookie in his hand). And Ben's knowledge is even less than that! So we weren't really sure what to expect, especially considering this was Braedyn's first "kid concert", for a lack of better words.
We sat down just a few minutes before the show started, and Braedyn just looked around curiously, wondering where Elmo was. Once the show started, Braedyn's eyes were completely glued to stage. I quickly discovered that larger-than-life muppet characters are a kid's dream come true! Here's a picture of Elmo and the purple guy (as you can tell, I didn't leave the show with any more knowledge of the characters).
Braedyn was so focused on the show and his eyes never left the stage. At one point, they started singing "Itsy Bitsy Spider", and I started to sing along (you know, because this was the only song I knew). After 5 seconds of singing, Braedyn looked at me and said, "No Mommy, No". Apparently, I was disrupting his concentration. Go figure!
I did manage to teach Braedyn who Big Bird was, and this is him pointing out his newfound Sesame Street character. So now he knows 2 - Elmo and Big Bird. =)
As I didn't quite know how interested Braedyn would be in this show, I figured worst case scenario would be having to leave during intermission. Well, this is Braedyn jacked up on his sesame street high during the intermission. He was so hyper and excited and ready for Part 2. *sigh of relief*
And he was glad he stuck around for the second half of the show, because the highlight was the choo-choo train part.
Braedyn sat on my lap throughout most of the show, but towards the end he wanted to sit by himself in the chair like a Big Boy. So I finally got a picture of him intently watching the show. I mean, is this kid mesmerized or what?!?
So overall, we were extremely pleased with how well Braedyn did at his first live show. He did start to lose a bit of interest in the last 10 minutes, but he was still so well behaved. When there were about 5 minutes left of the show, if you tuned out the show and just listened to the audience, you could hear babies and toddlers crying from one side of the arena to the other. It was kinda comical how all the kids began to get restless around the same time. And I am so glad this first experience was a positive one, it gives me great hope for the future!
