Birthday Parties

Braedyn went to his first birthday party this weekend. Our friends Yan and Rhonda have a little girl that turns 1 year old on Monday. While I always cringed at these things prior to having kids, it's all a good thing now that I have one. Funny how that works, huh?

So, we trotted over to the Birthday Bash, and we were simply in awe of what we saw. It was amazing... first, there were a gazillion kids everywhere, food galore, and the birthday girl herself was cute as could be. Ben, Braedyn and I nestled into the comfy leather couch and started to watch all the action. We were trying to figure out the ages of all the kids, but amazingly, we were absolutely clueless. We would think this kid or that kid looked Braedyn's age, then he/she would start to walk or crawl like a pro... and come to find out, they were 9 or 12 or 14 months old. How did they all look the same age to us?!

And as I looked around more, I realized that this was a party that was well planned and researched. I mean, there were games for kids outside, a kids pool in the backyard, lots of toys inside to play with, tons of food, napkins that matched the plates that matched the Birthday Girl's shirt, and last but not least, a pinata! So what does all this mean? This means that I have a hell of a lot of planning to do for Braedyn's 1st birthday bash.

First, I need to quickly make friends with people that have kids, because so far, the only ones we know are basically our family and Yan and Rhonda. And let's be honest, a child's birthday isn't really a birthday party with just adults, know what I mean?! And second, Braedyn's first birthday truly is a momentous occasion, so I now believe (after this weekend) that it needs to be celebrated the right way. I know, Ben's cringing right now as he reads this, because all he hears in his head is ka-ching, ka-ching.

So, congrats to Yan and Rhonda (mainly Rhonda, because as a wife and mommy, I'm clearly aware that you did 98% of the planning) on having a great birthday party. I aim to follow in your footsteps. And I would post a picture, but sadly enough, I believe I was the only one at the party without a camera!

Yes, Braedyn's first bday party has to be the biggest event yet. But let that be the first and only year. If you need a party planner let me know. Ha-Ha. 4 Years running and I think I'm getting pretty good at it. :) Wait till he tells you what kind of party he "wants" This year for Jordan it's Little Mermaid. Where would we be without Aerial???
