Bumps, Bruises & a Black Eye, Oh My!!

You know it's never a good thing when the daycare director calls you at work and starts off with "I just wanted to call to forewarn you about what just happened to Braedyn..." Yup, that's when your heart skips a beat and you get that nice, big lump in your throat. Braedyn has just suffered his first major injury. Well heck, who am I kidding, all injuries are major when it comes to your child, huh? I mean, I know he'll get plenty of bumps and bruises - especially now that he's started to crawl and is curious about everything - but I must have skipped the chapter in the New Mommy Handbook about how to handle a black eye!

Apparently, Braedyn was trying to pull up on some shelves at school, lost his balance, and hit his face when he came falling down. He hit right below his eye, and his eye swelled up immediately. I got to the preschool about 30 minutes after the incident occurred, and his eye was already swollen shut... I was a wimp, and was basically brought to tears. My poor little baby!! Here he is resting peacefully after we got home yesterday. His eye doesn't look as bad in this picture, but that's mainly because he doesn't have his eyes open... err, I mean his one eye open. ::sigh::

Braedyn saw his doctor today and she pried his eye open to check for damage on his actual eye. Thankfully, his eye looked good, and she said he will heal just fine, but he will be swollen for a few more days and may not be able to open his eye for 2 more days. This picture below is Ben showing his sympathy for our Little Boy, and you can see how swollen his eye really is.

Thankfully Ben was rational and able to calm me down when I thought we should take him to the emergency room last night. Daddy was able to calm Braedyn down and get him to sleep soundly last night. And me... well I am pretty sure I was opening the wine bottle at this point.

He has to stay home for the rest of the week. His doctor recommended not sending him back to preschool until he had use of both eyes. So Braedyn gets to have lots of TLC from Mommy, Daddy and Auntie Audrey for the rest of the week. And just think - he's only 10 months old! I better invest in lots of bottles of wine, huh?

And in case you're wondering, YES, we are currently accepting "Get Well" gifts. Please make all checks payable to Mommy. I promise to save the money for the therapy sessions I will need to keep me sane through the toddler years!!

Oh man...that makes me sad looking at his little swollen eye! If there is one positive, you could look at it like this..at least it happened while you werent there, because if you were there, then you would feel bad, you werent being a good mom, you werent paying attention, blah, blah, blah!

I've gotten those calls about Nicholas too and you just kind of sit there for a minute before it sinks in that he is actually fine! Pretty much now though, at 4yrs old, I pick him up and he has a new boo-boo and band-aid at least once a week! Those crazy boys!

Hope all is well, would still love to come by one weekend...see you, see the little guy and let the boys play.

Just wait until there are stitches along with the bruses. Or you have to hold him down while the doctor sewes him up. Or he comes home from school every week with a black eye. Yes indeed Wine should be stored and marked for emergency only just so you know there will be plenty on hand for just this occasion. Connie

Two questions: what does the other guy look like and how many rounds did it go, lol. Poor little thing. so glad I got to spend some time with him the other day. He is such a good little nephew.
