Just Another Manic Monday

Today was my first official day back to work after nearly six months of maternity leave. I knew today would eventually arrive, but no matter how much I prepared myself, I was so not ready for it. Why can't things run smoothly when you need them to. I know, that's a rhetorical question, but seriously... Okay, so let me break things down for you, you're going to absolutely love this!

Chase has been sleeping horribly the past two nights (not to be confused with his not-so-great sleeping on every other night). Last night was particularly bad as he was waking up crying every 1-2 hours. Then around 5:00 am, I am feeding him and notice that he is feeling a tad bit warm. "$%#&", I think to myself, "surely Little Chasey isn't getting sick on my first day back to work." By 7:00 am, Chase has a fever of 100 degrees. I mean, did anyone actually think that something like this wouldn't happen on my first day back to work? So my mom received a very early wake-up call as I pleaded for her babysitting services. Shortly after this, Ben's mom received a call pleading for her babysitting services tomorrow, because surely you can't think Chasey will magically get better in 24 hours. No, stuff like that doesn't happen to me.

So Ben and I are running around getting bottles and other things ready for my mom, and trying to get Braedyn dressed and fed as quickly as possible, while at the same time repeating to my crying toddler, "Yes Braedyn, I do understand that you want to play Yo Gabba Gabba stuff on the computer, but there's no time to do that in the morning." Then I silently cursed myself for showing him that damn website to begin with.

I manage to arrive at work at 8:02, which is a miracle in itself. After six months of leave, you would think there'd be a little bit of downtime to get settled in, but no such luck in my case. I had a set of financial statements and a to-do list in front of me within 8 minutes flat. So I start working, and secretly hope that the day will pass by rather quickly. But of course it doesn't, my misery only got worse because... a) my feet hurt so bad from wearing high heels for the first time in over 2 years; b) I kept having blurred vision through my contact lenses since my eyes were so dry from being completely exhausted; c) my head was pounding from looking at a computer screen with small numbers all over it for several hours in a row; and d) I was starving all day as this was my first day on Weight Watchers. It would not be an exaggeration to say that I. Was. Miserable.

I began counting down the minutes until my day ended at 4:30, and just to make it look good, I managed to stay until 4:34. (Way to make a good impression on my first day back, huh?) While picking Braedyn up from preschool, I notice that he has a mysterious looking red patch around his right eye. I'm assuming Braedyn fell and hit his eye area on something, but no one really knows for sure since no one noticed this until I asked about his eye. I mean, hell, it's just an eye right, he's got another to spare (said with extreme sarcasm). We finally get home, and lo and behold, Chase is still running a fever of 100.4, and Braedyn's eye area starts to turn a wonderful shade of purple. Fantastic! How fabulous is it that I get to turn around and do this all over again tomorrow?!? Seriously, it must be said, this going-back-to-work-to-earn-a-paycheck thing is the absolute pits, I think I need a vacation.

Oh Patty! :( I remember when I returned to work just 2 months ago and it was nothing short of disastrous for the first two weeks - Cooper also got sick and ended up in the hospital and of course I had to take sick time from work to be there with him and then we all got some nasty bug while at the hospital so I was sick as a dog for a week after that. I had used up all my paid time off so I had to work while sick (albeit from home) only I couldn't get ANY work done because Cooper was so sick and needy and we couldn't bring him to daycare and the nurse we hired to help out at home quit after the 2nd day claiming she got the stomach virus we had. Meanwhile people at work were filling me in on what I missed and I just remember feeling like my head was going to spin right off my neck. I can't afford to be a SAHM, not while we live where we are so I feel your pain - I really do. Hang in there. It will get better - not more fun, but easier to manage. Hugs to you! I hope Chase is feeling better really really soon!

Poor girl!!!!! I totally feel for you - I give you a lot of credit for dealing with it all. You know, having 2 incomes is really overrated...you could always become a realtor!!
