Sheryl Crow said it best - "...the first cut is the deepest..." Yeah, sure, I know she's talking about heartbreak and all that junk. But I can definitely relate to those words - the first cut is the most heartbreaking of them all!
I always knew this day would come, but I had always hoped that I wouldn't have to deal with it for another six months. I secretly hoped that I could get away with pushing off this task for a later time when I could better cope with it... but no such luck. Yep, that's right, I had to finally give Braedyn his first haircut. What is the big deal you ask? Well, I'm sure that all mommies will agree with me when I say that a baby's first hair cut is THE defining moment when they truly no longer look like a baby.
His hair was so long that it was starting to fall into his eyes, and it completely covered his ears and he always batted at it trying to move it away. So I figured I'd better give the little guy a break and take one for the team. Here he is after his first haircut:
He looks like he aged about 5 months, huh? What is it about a haircut that does that to a baby? And why is it that no matter how careful you are... the haircut always comes out crooked?! Seriously!
And here is the evidence:
So I guess I can say that I somehow managed to survive this traumatic event... I think the only thing that could be worse than this would be the day that we finally have to pack up his Fisher Price Papasan Swing, a.k.a. "Our Lifesaver". Now THAT will be a very, very dark day. His swing goes up to 24 lbs... and yeah, sure his little feet dangle over the edge, but I'll be damned if we pack that thing up before he hits 24.1 lbs!!
